How can I test my poptin before publishing it on my website?
In this Help Guide, we will try to explain how you can test your poptin before publishing it on your website.
You can test your poptin in five ways
Share Preview
With UTM
A random page on your site
Development site (staging)
Poptin's landing page link
Localhost
We will explain all the four ways here down below:
Share Preview
Within the design editor you can tap on "Preview" to check quick preview of your popup. You can also click on the share button to share the preview with your team.
The link below will load the popup on your website as a preview. Share it anywhere to test the popup.
With UTM
You can use UTM Parameters to test a poptin on your domain by only extending the URL with a UTM parameter so that nobody except you can see it.
For example, you have a domain called "example.com" then you can test on something like "example.com/?test" thus by extending a parameter of "?" on the URL to test your Poptin.
You can change your page targeting with UTM parameter from the "**Page Targeting**" trigger on Display Rules Settings of your popup like this like this:
And this is how your poptin summary should look like:
On a Random Page on your site
You can test your poptin on a Random page on your site like the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions pages which are not regularly visited. You can learn more about how to show a poptin on specific pages here.
You can show your poptin on Random pages on your site by "Page Targeting" trigger on Display Rules Settings of your popup like this:
And this is how the summary of your poptin should look like:
Once you are done testing the poptin you can always change the Page Targeting as per your requirements.
Development Site (Staging)
Many e-commerce website creating giants offer the option to create Dev site and Main site on the same domain for its Users. For example if you have a domain for main site like "example.com" you will get the option to create a dev site namely "dev.example.com".
In that case you can test your poptin on your Dev site before launching them on the Main Site.
You can change domain for your poptin (to your dev site) from here:

Landing Page
Poptin provides you with a feature to test the popup on a Landing page link before you decide to test it. You can keep a dummy domain name for such poptin and since its our own link, it will work.
Here is how you can test it:
Go to Landing page link for your poptin
Copy the Link
Paste the link on a New Blank Browser Tab and hit Enter
This is how a poptin on a landing page might look like:
Please note that on the landing page, the poptin will work with all the triggers and you can only test it with poptins that are turned on so if you want to test it before publishing on your main site, then the domain for such poptin does not need to be a real one (you can always change your domain back to the real one, check how to do that here) and it also won't need our installation code unlike on a website.
Localhost
If your website is not published yet, you can use localhost as your domain and test it out there. Don't forget to change back to the real domain once you publish it.
That's it. The above give ways can help you test a poptin before you launch it on your website.
