How to integrate your poptin with Mailchimp?

In this help article, we will illustrate how to integrate your poptin with Mailchimp.

Log in to your Poptin account and go to the popups dashboard. Once there, click on the dropdown icon next to the popup which you want to integrate with Mailchimp, and click "Edit Design".

Navigate to "Email and Integration" and click on "Add Integration".

Find Mailchimp in the list of integrations, and click on the "Authenticate" button in the Integration setting. It will pull the API Key automatically when you authenticate the integration.

If you do not have the login credentials of your Mailchimp account (for example, if you are doing this for a client) then you can add the API Key manually instead. This will be useful if you are an Agency Plan user and do not have access to your client's Mailchimp account.

The integration also supports Updating existing contacts.
If you have this toggle turned ON for the integration settings, then it will update existing contact on Mailchimp or create a new one if the contact does not already exit on Mailchimp.

Note: If the Update Existing Contacts toggle is turned ON, existing tags and Groups on updated contacts are not deleted. However, additional Tags and Groups are added.

Here is a snapshot highlighting the Update Existing contacts checkbox:

The integration also supports Groups and Tags on Mailchimp. If you have Groups already made for the Audience on Poptin, they will automatically reflect in the integration on Mailchimp, like this:

You can read more about Mailchimp Groups here

You can also add Tags via the Integration with Mailchimp. You can add new tags or you can add existing tags too via the integration, from here:

Once the authentication is done successfully, click on the Approve button at the bottom to save the integration.

Note: Aside from Name, Email, and Phone, if you want to add another field, you can use the Message field and add MESSAGE (Text type) as a merge tag to collect more data, and CONSENT (Text type) for our Consent Checkbox.

Note: Poptins on the same domain can only integrate with one MailChimp Account. If you want to integrate multiple domains with same Mailchimp account please use the API key directly instead of the OAuth method. Otherwise, if you use the OAuth method to integrate Mailchimp, the previous integration for the different domain will be broken.

Doesn't work? Follow these steps:

Make sure your Audience fields and |MERGE| tags look like this:

Make sure that nothing is marked as "required" (except for email) on Audience fields and |MERGE| tags.
Make sure you haven't reached the limit of subscribers on your Mailchimp account.
Test it with a new email that is not in your Audience already.
If it still doesn't work, generate a new API key and/or Audience and try again.

Note: Supported fields in Mailchimp <> Poptin integration are as below.

Name
Email
Phone
Message
